A historic Year for Powertrends
2017 is a historic year. On this 50th year of its founding of ASEAN, the 35th ASEAN Ministers of Energy Meeting (AMEM) will be held in Manila. In parallel, the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF), the high level-conference of the private sector involved in energy and senior energy officials of ASEAN is being organized to be incorporated with Powertrends 2017 which marks its 12th anniversary. Powertrends and AEBF will be held at the SMX Convention Center on September 27-29, 2017.
There will be 3 days of sharing market information, knowledge and business opportunities and the “golden” opportunity for networking with the ASEAN energy family in this year’s Powertrends series. Powertrends 2017 will be officially opened by the Ministers of Energy of the ASEAN member countries, accompanied by their senior officials of energy and accompanying business groups. Previously a biennial event, Powertrends went annual beginning 2016 against the backdrop of escalating energy demand, the challenge to cut down carbon dioxide (CO2) emission and significant global developments.
Incorporated with Powertrends are Energy Expo 2017 and Electech/Lightech 2017
- PowerTrends 2017 focuses on Power generation, Transmission, Distribution and Management.
- Energy Expo 2017 focuses on Renewable Energy, Natural Gas/LNG, Oil and Gas Exploration, Coal Mining and Processing and Nuclear Energy.
- Electech/Lightech 2017 focuses on Digital Directions on Electricity, Energy Efficiency, Electrical Technologies and Lighting.
First organized in 1995 with the Department of Energy and the National Power Corporation, PowerTrends is the longest-running international energy event in the Philippines. PowerTrends is attended by senior officials of private and government energy-related companies, investors and representatives of financial institutions. The occasion provides a platform for close interaction among energy players and government authorities.
The last PowerTrends series held September 21-23, 2016 at the SMX Convention Center presented products of international energy players from 16 countries, prominently led by the National Pavilion of Germany. One special feature of last year’s Powertrends was the roll out of the Access to Sustainable Energy Program by the World Bank-EU. For this, some US $23.24 million was made available for purchase of solar home systems for 40,500 households and for funding small grid-connected solar power plants for a total of new renewable energy generation capacity of 14 MW. The fund was provided by the EU-World Bank Trust fund.
