European Union Technical Assistance Facility for Sustainable Energy (EU TAF for SE) Support to the Vietnam Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Power Development Plan VIII (SEA of PDP8)

ON-LINE TRAINING PROGRAMME

This portal contains a series of six online training modules that have been prepared as part of the capacity development activities for the EU TAF Support to the Preparation of the SEA of PDP 8 in Vietnam.

The focus of the training modules is on key areas of methodology development that have been identified with IE as ones where extended capacity development support would be of value.

Each of Each of the topics will be agreed with the SEA team of the Institute of Energy (IE) and also with EREA/MOIT.

The six modules are:

  • Module 1: Introduction to Strategic Environmental Assessment and SEA in the strategic planning process
  • Module 2: Estimating Emissions from Thermal Power Plants
  • Module 3: The Social Cost of Carbon
  • Module 4: Assessing the Impact of Thermal Power on Human Health
  • Module 5: Assessing the Impacts of Renewable Energy: Wind and Solar Power
  • Module 6: Offshore Wind Farm Development: Best Practices in Planning, Environmental and Safety Regulations

These online training modules are designed to be self-contained and to present the key concepts and methods needed to understand how to assess the impacts of the different topics in the execution of an SEA.

The online materials are supported by the original discussion notes on the topics, with these containing more detailed backgrounds and analysis. There are also a number of key references for each of the modules provided.

Four of the modules have been supplemented by online trainings for the staff of IE and of EREA. The workshop presentations for these four modules are also provided.

Each module contains a questions and answers link. This gives an opportunity for individuals working through the modules to ask for clarification or additional information on the content of the modules. The questions will be answered by members of the EU TAF team.

Outlines of the six modules are set out below, with each outline including a link to the module itself.
